What should have been a day marking a usual step in the traditionally peaceful transfer of power erupted into violence and chaos on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day at a rally on the Ellipse, President Trump said he wouldn’t concede and urged his supporters to march on the Capitol. Members of Congress meeting there to certify Joe Biden as the winner of the November election had to clear out when rioters breached the grounds, forced their way inside the building and left a wake of destruction.
